Polygon Labs has joined forces with Unstoppable Domains to introduce top-level domains for the Polygon ecosystem.

This new venture will allow users to log into Web3 applications, generate human-readable wallet addresses, and construct decentralized websites

An estimated 180 million people in addition to 40,000 services will have access to the Polygon blockchain with Unstoppable Domains utilizing Polygon to mint decentralized domains with no gas fees. To date, over 2.7 million domains have been created on the Polygon blockchain. These “.polygon” domains will enable users to establish digital identities that are compatible across 750 applications, games, and metaverse platforms. This will allow users to log in to web apps, use crypto without lengthy wallet addresses, and create decentralized websites. Unstoppable Domains will also provide access to premium “.polygon” gaming and digital domains beginning March 16. Decentralized domain services such as Unstoppable Domains and Ethereum Name Service (ENS) have seen a significant rise in domains registered over the past year. In August 2020, American cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase partnered with Unstoppable Domains to permit payments through domain handles rather than cryptographic addresses. Then, in September 2022, Coinbase linked up with ENS to offer users free “name.cb.id” usernames as an alternative to alpha-numeric wallet addresses.
